About
Chastine Ibsen makes portraits that refuse to sit still. Faces are bound with string, cut into fragments, stippled dot by dot, or worn down to a single watching eye.
Alongside painting and drawing she works in three dimensions — casts, embossed foil and objects held in glass. The thread through all of it is the body: how it is seen, and how it looks back.
